Pit Fired Mask
First I started by sketching a mask.
After sketching my mask, I rolled out a slab of clay that I then put on top of a mold, and cut the excess clay off.
I smoothed out the edges and cut holes for the eyes and mouth. Then I bordered the holes and added a nose.
I added ears to make my mask look more like a face.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to do exactly what I originally sketched, but I ended up adding a small mohawk.
I wanted some sort of texture on my mask so I used stamp letters and numbers to make my mask more interesting and meaningful to me.
I also added lines on the mouth and little dots on the eyes.
After the mask dried, it was bisque fired.
I completely covered my mask.
I glazed the letters different colors and used a sponge to clean off the excess. After this it will be pit fired.
This is the final product. I love the way it turned out. I like how the letters pop, but I could've used more vibrant colors.
